Locking Forms/Work Items

Similarly as to how we can lock tickets from another person acting on it, but a "read only" permission is available, is there a conversation around this functionality for work items? This came up with one of our Oil & Gas clients this morning when it ties into aerial patrols, but all forms could benefit from this when there are overlapping groups looking at work items.
