alerts not showing if not on ticket list

I have found if my screen is in a single ticket alerts are not audible until i go back to the ticket list. I rely on the audible while driving to let me know I have an alert and find it annoying to be late to emergency callouts (my alert usage) because the screen wasn't on the ticket list. Is there any way this can be programmed to automatically run in the background regardless of which screen has focus?
