What does the GPS / Location Update / Custom Interval Control - do?

This is in Utilisphere on the iPad.  Does it affect GPS responsiveness?

The Custom Interval allows you go configure the number of seconds it takes for UtiliSphere to pull from the GPS device. For instance, if you have a large number of seconds UtiliSphere will pull less frequently from the device. Smaller numbers will make UtiliSphere pull more frequently. The more frequently UtiliSphere pulls, the hotter the GPS will be in terms of getting a location. However, the accuracy still depends on the GPS hardware itself.
